Between 1870 and 1914, America entered a period of extraordinary change. Railroads, electricity, telephones, refrigeration, automobiles, and modern manufacturing reshaped daily life. Small towns recognized new opportunities and embraced innovation. Their decisions strengthened local businesses, connected communities, and created lasting prosperity.

The Rise of Main Street examines the twelve innovations that had the greatest influence on each local community during the Second Industrial Revolution. Every city followed a different path. Some communities grew through agriculture, while others expanded through transportation, manufacturing, or commerce. Each course explains how national innovations produced local results.

Every innovation is evaluated through four areas of impact. The curriculum examines changes to social life, economic development, infrastructure, and education. This framework helps residents understand how innovation built the Future of Main Street.
